Nambale Magnet School

Nambale Magnet School was founded in western Kenya by Evalyn Wakhusama, whose compassion for vulnerable children led her to open her home to those in need. What began as a small, personal act of care grew into a safe haven where children who had lost parents or faced extreme hardship could find stability, support, and hope.

In a region where access to education is often limited, the school provides far more than a classroom. Nambale Magnet School offers a nurturing environment where children receive daily meals, a place to live, and the opportunity to learn and grow. It is both a school and a home—built on the belief that every child deserves dignity, care, and a chance at a brighter future.

Over the years, Nambale Magnet School has grown steadily, expanding its capacity to serve more children and deepen the quality of education it provides. The school has become a model in the region — demonstrating that when a community commits to its most vulnerable members, transformation follows. Students who arrive with little leave with confidence, skills, and dreams for their futures.

The Cornerstone Project has been proud to walk alongside Nambale Magnet School since 2012, supporting its mission through fundraising, volunteer teaching, and advocacy. What Evalyn began with an open door and an open heart continues to grow, and every friend, donor, and partner who has joined this journey has helped make that possible.
