The founder of  Nambale Magnet School (NMS) in Western Kenya and Women's Initiative in Knowledge & Survival (WIkS). Following her graduation from Yale Divinity School in 2002, she envisioned building a self-sustaining school in her childhood community to support vulnerable children, many of whom had been orphaned or affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. With the support of friends and partners, land for the school was acquired in 2005, and in January 2009, Nambale Magnet School officially opened its doors to 30 preschool and kindergarten learners. Over the years, the school steadily expanded, adding classrooms annually to support learners as they progressed through each grade level. Today, NMS serves hundreds of learners from pre-primary through junior secondary education and has grown into a holistic learning institution offering academic, vocational, and agricultural pathways. Under Evalyn’s leadership, the school has developed libraries, technology labs, sustainability farming initiatives, music and drama programmes, and sports opportunities that nurture the whole child. Many of the school’s alumni are now pursuing higher education in some of Kenya’s leading institutions in fields such as engineering, education, and business. Her work continues to reflect a deep commitment to educational equity, community empowerment, faith-driven leadership, and sustainable transformation for children and families in underserved communities. Her efforts through WIKS and Nambale Magnet School earned her the prestigious Lux et Veritas Award at Yale Divinity School’s Fall Convocation in 2011, an honor presented to a graduate whose work demonstrates excellence in applying the compassion of Christ to the diversities of the human condition. Through her leadership and vision, Evalyn continues to transform the difficult realities faced by vulnerable children into opportunities for hope, growth, and lifelong success. Evalyn was selected as a Fellow of the 2015 Ford Motor Company International Fellowship at the 92nd Street Y, recognizing her continued leadership and impact in education and community transformation.
